Himley Duo

Anna Downes (violin)
Tony Bridgewater (piano)

Anna Downes was born into a family of professional musicians, her father being the celebrated composer Andrew Downes. Anna began to play the violin at an early age and studied with Malcolm Latcham of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and with David Gregory of the CBSO. As a student she played with the English Mozart Players and also appeared as a soloist on BBC Radio 2. Anna has a busy career as a freelance violinist and has performed with many leading orchestras. She is the founder and leader of Central England Camerata and an active recitalist who works extensively as part of the Amabile Trio as well as with the Himley Duo.

Tony Bridgewater was a student at the Birmingham School of Music and St Johns College, Cambridge, studying piano with Malcolm Wilson and Renée Reznek and composition with Peter Tranchell. He has also participated in piano workshops with Margaret Fingerhut, David Owen Norris and James Lisney. Tony is a regular chamber music player, not only with the Himley Duo but in other combinations, and is also greatly in demand as an accompanist. He appears frequently in the Local & Live Concert Series in Stourbridge, West Midlands and is also a composer of some note.

The Himley Duo are well-established in the West Midlands, Warwickshire and Worcestershire, giving regular recitals across the area. They have a wide repertoire which encompasses works from the Baroque period right through to contemporary music.
