William has been involved in a wide range of projects as a choral director and vocal animateur, developing singing in a range of organisations including Birmingham Music Service, Leicestershire Chorale and Scottish Opera.

William Coleman has sung with Welsh National Opera, English Touring Opera, Raymond Gubbay, Buxton Festival Opera and Longborough Festival Opera.

He was a member of the Chorus of Scottish Opera 1996 - 2001, and has also sung with many leading ensembles including BBC Singers, Ex-Cathedra, Dunedin Consort and Cappella Nova.

As an oratorio soloist, William has performed with Nottingham Bach Choir, Leicestershire Chorale, English Baroque Choir, Buxton Festival, Edinburgh Bach Choir and the Britten-Pears Chamber Choir at Snape Maltings. He was Noah in the 2008 Worcester Three Choirs Festival performance of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde and in September 2010 for The King’s School, Worcester. He co-produced and directed a community performance of John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera, in April 2010 at the Coach House Theatre, Malvern.

William was brought up in Somerset where he was a Chorister at Wells Cathedral School. He read music at the University of Liverpool and studied singing in Glasgow at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Patricia MacMahon.

William‘s commitment to encouraging and developing singing has found him involved in several areas of vocal and choral music.

He has been Choral Director to Stourbridge Choral & Orchestral Society, and musical director of Northampton Festival Opera. He is a vocal coach to the National Youth Choir of Scotland and the National Youth Choir of Wales. In 2011 he established Severn Voices SATB chamber choir rehearsing in Malvern. William is visiting vocal teacher at Malvern College, Malvern St. James Girls’ School, and Bromsgrove School.

William has performed a wide range of song composers, from classical through to jazz, and he has a particular interest in British song composers. He has given performances featuring British composers at the Bath Literature Festival, Buxton Festival and the Stratford Festival of English Music.

He has also commissioned a number of songs from contemporary composers, with the assistance of the Scottish Arts Council and support of the Saltire Society.

He has recorded a disc of lieder by Swiss composers for Guild Records and has featured in a number of recordings and radio and TV broadcasts with Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and Cappella Nova.
